The poem of a hot summer's night
I reach out from where I lie
Yet touch nothing but empty promises
My fingers gently brush away the memories
They fade away and die
I close my eyes
Your laughter fills my ears
Just beside me yet so far away
Full of old, forgotten fears
I take a deep breath, maybe a sigh
Halfway between reality and dreaming
I catch your fragrance, that gets me high
A lonely tear stains my face, like stars, gleaming
I taste the salt on my lips
Salt of my tears
Salt of your lips
All is lost in remembrance
I sense a shape lying beside me
My last conscious thought
I hold fast to it, fake as it might be
Yet I gras
